Welcome to Colossal! There are currently about 80 people a minute hitting this blog post to see the works of Ursus Wehrli, though unfortunately the publisher, KEIN & ABER AG, has asked that the photos be removed as they ‘don’t allow their images to be shown online.’ I urge you to look at Colossal’s Visual Archive to see some pretty amazing art and design projects you’ve probably never seen before. Have a nice day!
Swiss artist and comedian Ursus Wehrli is famous for his Tidying Up Art books, where he takes famous artworks by the likes of Chagall, Seraut, or Paul Klee, and “tidies” up the images by carefully organizing them into component pieces, or by creating clever infographic-like variations. My favorite: after deciding he can’t completely organize a Jackson Pollock, he simply returns all of the paint to its original paint cans. The work landed him a pretty hilarious TED talk in 2006.
The above photos are from his forthcoming book, The Art of Clean Up, due out next month, where he leaves fine art behind and begins focusing on common objects or situations and organizes them. See a couple more images from the new book in this gallery on sueddeutsche.de. (via we love typography)
