An Alaskan Electric Violinist Rocks the Streets of Spokane

An Alaskan Electric Violinist Rocks the Streets of Spokane violins video art

This is a fantastic clip of Anchorage-based violinist Bryson Andres playing his sampled and looped version of OneRepublic’s Secrets on the streets of Spokane, Washington. As somebody who played violin for close to nine years I’m in awe in what Andres has accomplished in just eight … I had difficulty keeping my instrument in tune, let alone, y’know, being able to produce things that sounded like music. These are just a few of many wonderful pieces by Italian sculptor Matteo Pugliese who lives and works in Milan. His bronze sculptures of men, often made from multiple components, appear to be trapped in the vertical space of gallery walls. My Star Wars-addled brain is reminded of Hans Solo encased in carbonite, though I find these aesthetically much more pleasing. (via job’s wife)

Here are nine of my favorite photos encountered (though not necessarily taken) on Flickr over the past two weeks, everything linked to its source. It was great to see a new piece from Dan Mountford after a bit of a hiatus. See previous Flickr Finds.

A wonderfully executed ad campaign by Legas Delaney for Plant for the Planet, using cut leaves symbolizing their ability to absorb CO2. Beautiful work. (via inspire me now and ads of the world)

I am in awe of these fantastic LEGO sculptures by Bruce Lowell, who frequently models his miniature creations off actual household objects and foods. From a killer KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer to simple paint roller everything you see is tiny LEGO bricks. I can’t imagine the amount of time it takes to determine if the needed pieces even exist, let alone putting them all together. Too much fun.

This past September photographer Wittner Fabrice (previously) had the opportunity to visit Vietnam where he managed to execute a number of his unique light stencils in various locations around the country. Keep in mind these are not digital, but rather long-exposure photos created with lights shone through large cut stencils. Though I really enjoyed Wittner’s previous light paintings commemorating the Christchurch earthquake, the picturesque backdrops of Vietnam as well as a clear improvement in technique make these even more special. See much more of the project here.
