Embroidery month continues here at Colossal. After a road trip across the U.S., Buckinghamshire-based artist Peter Crawley was inspired to stitch his travels onto a map. Apparently Crawley took to the medium rather quickly and he’s been unable to put down the thread ever since. His portfolio is chalk full of architectural renderings, geometric forms, typography and other illustrations all painstakingly sewn into pierced watercolor paper using cotton thread. When I started working on Colossal in earnest last August I did’t anticipate the rash of embroidery that would eventually makes its way here. This work by Daniel Kornrumpf is astounding.

Based on the huge response to the embroidery work of Lauren DiCioccio last week I’m sure many of you will enjoy this CMYK typography by London-based Evelin Kasikov. Evelyn uses thread to mimic moiré patterns used by printers, where multiple color grids are overlapped to create shapes of blended color. (via ape on the moon)

I grew up in a house where the sound of my mom’s sewing machine was constantly hammering away in the background, so it’s easy for me to appreciate how much time it must take Lauren DiCioccio to make these pieces with just a needle and thread. Especially enjoy her sewnnews series. (via who killed bambi)
