Kinetic Rings Mimic the Flight of Birds

Kansas-based metalsmith and jeweler Dukno Yoon creates rings, bracelets, and other devices that mimic the movements of birds by harnessing the motion caused by the flick of the wrist or flexing of fingers. Yoon received his BFA from Kookmin University, Seoul and a MFA from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and most recently has been working on a series of metronomes that also explore the movement of birds. Though I was only able to embed a few of the animated examples of his work above, head over to his Wings gallery to see many more devices in action, the bracelets in particular are really fun to watch. If you like the kinetic nature of these pieces also check out the work of Gary Schott.

The animated GIFs above are pretty large and might take a moment to load if you’re on a slower connection. We’ll see how the bandwidth does for this post and I’ll do my best to keep them up.

Animated Liquid Typography

Russian digital artist Ruslan Khasanov (previously here and here), has continued his liquid type experiments by producing this wicked series of animated gifs called Liquid Type in Motion, showing what happens when he produces these beautifully organic letterforms. Almost looks like something that belongs in the opening credits for Se7ven. See more from the series here.

Stellar by Ignacio Torres

Beautifully executed animations by Texas photographer Ignacio Torres from his series Stellar. Via his website:

This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.

These are just a selection of the series, click through to see the entire project. (via paranaiv)
