Bernardí Roig is an artist from Mallorca, Spain who explores concepts of loneliness, death, and immortality with his surreal light sculptures. Roig frequently uses a portly white figure made of polyester resin who is seen interacting with fluorescent lights, sometimes staring at it with a childlike curiosity, while in other installations appearing to be violently blinded. The lights are also used as an encumbrance, a bright weighted burden carried through the gallery space. See more at Claire Oliver and in this ebook. I’m really enjoying the sculptural works of Brooklyn artist Matthew Day Jackson that confronts ideas of death and mortality. Images are linked to their sources. (via lustik — how do I get in touch with you? can you please shoot me an email?)
