This new music video from Marc Donahue and Sean Michael Williams starring Beau Brigham was shot over a six month period in two states and is the second part of a two part series that explores some interesting ideas in animation and what they describe as “lyric lapsing”. According to the producers the final edit is comprised of some 15,000 stills and involved 6-8 hours of work to produce just 3-4 seconds of footage. I urge you to stick with it for at least a minute as there are some increasingly amazing sequences after that. (via booooooom)

Eytan and The Embassy Breaks Record for Most Costume Changes in a One Take Music Video music video

I’m loving this new video from Brooklyn-based band Eytan and The Embassy that features no less than 18 costume changes in a single take. The video, which took a day to rehearse and 30 takes to get right, features Eytan being transformed into famous rock and pop legends from John Lennon to Bruce Springsteen and even a final appearance by Deadmau5. See the making-of here. (via laughing squid)

Although this has been making the rounds here and there it’s taken me a few weeks to actually sit down and appreciate this cover of The Animals House of the Rising Sun covered entirely using audio samples recorded from legacy computer equipment and diagnostic machines. The piece uses four primary “instruments” including an HP Scanjet 3P, an Atari 800XL with an EiCO Oscilloscope as the organ, a Texas instrument Ti-99/4A with a Tektronix Oscilloscope as the guitar and a hard-drive powered by a PiC16F84A microcontroller as the bass drum and cymbal. Video and music by PURETUNE. (via dudecraft)

Update: Here’s a similar video done three years ago by James Houston, covering Radiohead. (thnx, stephen!)

Rippled is a music video shot by Australian animators Oh Yeah Wow for a track off All India Radio’s The Silent Surf. The entire video was painstakingly rendered frame-by-frame in camera using long exposure light painting techniques. I think my favorite thing about this piece other than some of the brilliant sequences (and there are many) is the near constant presence of blurred people in the background who look like ghost puppeteers, moving the figures and lights bit by bit. Stunning work. (via vimeo)

A trippy new video for the Macabees directed by UK-based animator David Wilson. The second clip is the making of, which is also worth a watch. (via vimeo)

A new video from Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski (previously) for We Cut Corners. The entire video was hand drawn, frame by frame using markers on paper. The not so exciting making of video is kind of hilarious.
