Soon Young Lee

October 5, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Soon Young Lee photographs these delightful miniature rooms overgrown with moss and sprouts, incorporating a number of other bizarre and surreal elements. They’re kind of like Slinkachu meets Jumanji. Yeah, it’s after midnight and that’s all I’ve got. See more over on Art Hub. (images via galerie mariska hammoudi and art hub)

Money Trees

September 10, 2011

Christopher Jobson

As perhaps a companion piece to last week’s skull nickels, here’s yet another thing I had no idea existed. Apparently in several wooded areas around the UK, passersby have been stopping for decades (if not centuries), meticulously hammering small denomination coins intro trees. Most of the trees seem to be in and around Cumbria and Portmeirion, and I didn’t find a single example of a tree like this located outside the UK. According to this recent article by the BBC, the practice might date back to the early 1700s in Scotland where ill people stuck florins into trees with the idea that the tree would take away their sickness. The practice seems akin to love padlocks or Americans collaborative effort of sticking their nasty ass gum all over everything. June 22, 2011

Christopher Jobson

From Another Studio, makers of the pop-up postcard gardens comes MatchCarden, little teeny tiny gardens that sprout from a container the size of a traditional matchbox. Personally I won’t be satisfied until they release a postagestampcarden. (via core77)

And while you’re digging up your old comic books to start your next herb garden, check out these plastic toy dinosaur and animal planters by Plaid Pigeon. Awesome. With this morning’s thick layer of ice and my subsequent sidewalk face-plant, can you tell I’m itching for spring?
