November 29, 2010

Christopher Jobson

A killer timelapse video by Chicago photographer Chris Pritchard. “Cycles of Light is a reel of timelapse material shot in 2010 by Chris Pritchard, highlighting the neverending cycles of movement and light through the city and sky.” Some exquisite moments of Chicago caught on film. Melting Rock with the Sun

November 28, 2010

Christopher Jobson

This is a clip from the Solar Furnace Research Facility in Southern France that has a device capable of focusing the sun’s rays into a giant death laser that reaches temperatures around 3,500 Fahrenheit (or 1,926 Celsius). The real kicker being that it only takes as much sun as would hit three sunbathers to melt rock. Goooo science! (via devour)

3d Animated Graffiti by Graffiti Technica

November 28, 2010

Christopher Jobson

OK, so maybe a little over the top, but I’m loving these animated graffiti sketches from the Australian Graffiti Technica. There’s just the perfect mix of shaky camera work, lighting, and top-notch sound design to make these little 3d experiments pretty exceptional, and hey, if all graffiti trended toward enormous hover robots we’d probably spend a lot less taxpayer money on spray paint removal. Interactive butterfly installation by Dominic Harris

November 28, 2010

Christopher Jobson

Flutter is a really impressive interactive artwork by Dominic Harris of Cinimod Studio. The installation consists of a linear array of 88 vertical double-sided video fins projecting from a mirrored surface. Butterflies are projected on the screens and then react to the motion of your hand or body as you pass by.

Fun viral advert for Batelco, and an obligatory making of clip. Made by Spy Films, which also produced Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 precursor, Alive in Joburg. And don’t miss the District 9 sequel viral advert just released last week. (via pratt)

An important message about saving the arts by artist David Shrigley, whose photographs I’ve always been very fond of. (via cake loves evil)

How to Spend 3 ½ months on 25 Seconds of Stop-motion

November 23, 2010

Christopher Jobson

Soulgrafix was hired by French cable channel Canal+ to make a brief animated opening sequence advertising the station. For nearly four months they toiled through three rounds of 3D animated storyboards, physical construction of set pieces, and finally shooting. The production value of this is just insane for a technique over 100 years old. Lots of stills via Flickr.
