A few months ago I wrote about Candy Chang‘s Before I Die project in New Orleans that engaged passersby to complete the prompt “Before I die I want to…” on the side of abandoned buildings using provided chalk. As an extension of the project she’s created a limited edition set of painted chalkboards with a similar prompt. Via her web site:

Each Before I Die painting is 48″x12″ on birchwood ply and individually handmade with care. The wood is sanded, primed, and coated with a layer of black chalkboard paint, and the back is stained with a natural finish and handstamped and signed by yours truly. Also includes three brass plated D-Ring hangers attached to the back, a 4″ hardwood chalk holder, and a colorful stick of chalk.

The boards are $150 each. Check ‘em out at the Civic Center. Side note: also cool in the Civic Store. (via plenty of color)

Stick & Stones

This wonderful 200 foot (63 meter) mixed-media mural reading “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will always save me” was recently installed in Adelaide, Australia by street artist ABOVE who fell while working on the installation, breaking his scapula in two places and suffering a concussion that required two hospital visits. Luckily he wasn’t working alone and a number of other talented artists helped to complete the project including illustrator and wood-carver Chris Edser, designer Tristan Kerr, public artist ANKLES, and Joshua Fanning. A big thanks to photographer Jonathan VDK for providing his images for the post. Definitely click the panorama thumbnail above to see the completed piece. (via unurth)

Need/Want Glass

The Need/Want Glass from Alesina Design encourages you to think about wasting water every time you take a drink. By holding your finger over a hole in the glass, you consciously permit yourself to have more water than you might “need”. This is all subjective I’m sure, and if you could somehow apply the concept to watering your lawn or taking a bath it might be even more effective. Still, got me thinking.
