A Typographic Tribute Honors the Residents and Neighbors of a Now-Demolished House in Sainte-Marie

June 17, 2022

Grace Ebert

For five days in November 2020, a house in Sainte-Marie, Québec, identified all of its residents and neighbors on Saint Louis Avenue. Antoine Audet, Maude Faucher, James Audet... the list included hundreds of names inked on strips of white paper and pasted to the clapboards. The ephemeral design was the project of Louis Gagnon, creative director of the Montréal-based studio Paprika who lived in the house as a child and wanted to honor its tenants and friends before it was demolished. Back in 2019, major flooding swamped the city,…

March 30, 2022

Grace Ebert

Since 2017, a multi-faceted initiative has celebrated hundreds of street photographers whose work develops and expands the boundaries of what's historically been a male-dominated field. February 5, 2019

Squarespace

Artist and self-described craftsperson Maude White (previously) captures gentle moments of beauty and grace in her meticulously detailed paper cut artworks. White has worked in paper for the last several years, first exploring her signature medium with simple silhouettes and popup books. The New York-based artist now focuses on the organic forms of female portraits, flowers, and birds. "Every piece I create has its own identity," White explains. "The knife, and me, and the paper are all in a dialog together, all talking and getting along. The last thing I…

New Delicate Cut Paper Flowers by Maude White

July 13, 2015

Christopher Jobson

Paper-cutting artist Maude White (previously) continues to astound us with her painstaking illustrations cut from single sheets of paper. Limited to only negative and positive space, she explores poetic compositions of line and shape as she renders each piece with a knife. White is currently working on a series of blooms as part of an upcoming exhibition at Buffalo Arts Studio, and if you want to learn a bit more about her process she recently did an interview over on Block Club.
