Turntable Phonotrope

March 24, 2011

Christopher Jobson

If you liked last week’s Cyclotrope, you’ll dig this collaboration between DJ Maclom Goldie and the Institute of Contemporary Arts London. On the Vimeo page they discuss how it “kind of didn’t work” however I politely disagree, this thing is flippin’ sweet. (via lookva)

Preview for Noise

March 20, 2011

Christopher Jobson

This is a teaser trailer for an upcoming stop motion short film called Noise by Polish filmmaking duo Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski. Via their blog:

Film inspired by the theoretic work of George Berkeley and basics of synesthetic perception.
It’s a game of imagination provoked by sound. Individual sounds penetrating into the apartment of the main character relieved of their visual designates evoke images distant from its origins.

See more screens from the film here. (via lookva)

Ah, an animated short using Lego

A graduate project in animation by Lee Sunghwan of Studio Shelter. Though I had trouble discerning a plot exactly, I found myself giggling a few times, this is pretty well done.

Water ink _ BDDP Unlimited and Solidarités International – UK from ici Barbès on Vimeo.

A wonderful clip to promote World Water Day by French firm BDDP Unlimited. Directed by Clement Beauvais, the film is meant to spread awareness of waterborne illness that kills an estimated 3.6 million people each year by using a delicate water and ink method that “reveals what is invisible.” So well done.

A great natural gas commercial produced by Lovo Films. After a month of preparation the stop motion spot took 4 days and nights to shoot with a crew of 40. Directed by Olivier Babinet for TBWA Brussels. And here’s the making of:

The Cyclotrope

The Cyclotrope is an ingenious short animation by Tim Wheatley. By affixing a sequence of 18 objects to the wheel and rotating at just the right speed the illusion of animation is created. Excuse me while I dismantle my neighbor’s bicycle.

WWF: Earth Hour 2011

February 16, 2011

Christopher Jobson

A great new stop motion animation to promote Earth Hour using hundreds of people holding colored panels. The part with the bicycle is particularly special.

From its inception as a single-city initiative — Sydney, Australia – in 2007, Earth Hour has grown into a global symbol of hope and movement for change. Earth Hour 2010 created history as the world’s largest ever voluntary action with people, businesses and governments in 128 countries across every continent coming together to celebrate an unambiguous commitment to the one thing that unites us all — the planet.
