Book Sculptures by Ann Hamilton
Ann Hamilton works in a wide variety of mediums including interactive audio and sensory works, photography, and elaborate large-scale installations. When looking through her body of art that spans more than 20 years (Google around, much if it isn’t on her site), her book sculptures really got my attention.

The Drawing Machine
For the past four years Harvey Moon, a photographer and artist currently studying at the Art Institute of Chicago has been working on a suspended robot that draws by taking instructions from a computer. His Kickstarter project (which is already 300% funded) is an opportunity for you to buy prints made from the device and to potentially fund drawing robot kits for the masses. Anything at the intersection of robots and art gets a huge thumbs up from me. (via make)

Make This Better
The folks over at Broken City Lab have created this great installation that will be temporarily installed in locations around Ontario to generate conversations and awareness around areas of urban blight. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited local neighborhood blogs here in Chicago to read through the litany of armchair urban planners complaining about what politician or neighborhood group is responsible for fixing which square foot of what block. It’s so uplifting to see art and a little creativity being used as a tool to solve city problems.

Efraïm Rodriguez Cobos
Really enjoying these wooden sculptures by Efraïm Rodriguez Cobos who lives and works in Barcelona. He creates a large composite foundation from loose pieces of beechwood or sycamore and then carefully carves the figures, a process that creates interesting fragmentation within the final piece. He also has a fascination with ostriches.

Map Collages by Matthew Cusik
I am totally in awe of the detailed map collage work of Dallas, Texas artist Matthew Cusik.
Defacements are obsessively crafted amalgamations of word and image in the tradition of altered books and concrete poetry. The re-contextualization of image, word, and number creates a new storyline that is often in the spirit of a prankster student who has marked up a textbook with irreverent and provocative commentary.
His large-scale Bible work, Passages, is also something to behold. (via green chair press

The World by Paula Scher
The World is a new painting by Paula Scher that is available as a 16-panel set or as a full image over at 20×200.
The World is a painting about information overload. It depicts the world as swirling information that is always changing, often inaccurate, while somewhat illuminating. It is expressionistic information.
You can purchase the full set of 16 prints, or order single panels that will be selected at random and shipped to you. A full one-third of the proceeds will benefit Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.
