Explosive Mixed Media Paintings by Danny O’Conner

June 6, 2012

Christopher Jobson

These vibrant paintings by artist Danny O’Conner are created using acrylic, spray paint, emulsion and correction fluid resulting in explosive portraits that seem to shatter and pulse off the canvas. He currently has a number of original works available in his shop. (via cosas cool)

Street Art from Nomerz

June 6, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Street artist Nomerz has been busy lately, cranking out at least four new large-scale pieces in the last few weeks. I really enjoy his blending of graffiti, architecture, and found objects to create each piece.

Melting Ice Cream Truck by the Glue Society

June 5, 2012

Christopher Jobson

As a kid, the summertime tragedy of dropping newly scooped ice cream on the sweltering hot ground is comparable to few other horrors, except maybe this sculpture by the Glue Society. The melting ice cream truck is a sculpture titled Hot With The Chance of Late Storm that was unveiled at the 2006 Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney. Quick, somebody get a giant spoon. The 2012 Sketchbook Project Goes on Tour

June 3, 2012

Our friends over at the Art House Co-op are now officially on tour with the 2012 Sketchbook Project. Upcoming stops include Oakland, Portland, Toronto, Austin, London, and Melbourne among many others and I’m told lines are stretching out the door so best to get there early. The Sketchbook Project is a global, crowd-sourced art project where participants obtain sketchbooks and are given several months to fill the pages and return them for inclusion in the traveling exhibition. Here are some of our favorites from the 2012 project, and if you’re interested I strongly urge you to get involved in the next!

Art House Co-op have also begun an ongoing series of collaborative art projects called the 10×10 Series where participants submit photography, short films, letters, and other forms of art or expression based on certain criteria or themes. As new projects launch online they fill extremely fast, so keep your eye out.

An Outdoor Library in Ghent by Massimo Bartolini

June 3, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I personally haven’t visited a library in longer than I care to say, but if I happened upon this public outdoor library installed in the middle of a Belgian vineyard I would be tempted to grab a cork screw and picnic blanket to make a day of it. The outdoor library entitled Bookyard was built by Italian artist Massimo Bartolini for the Belgian art festival TRACK: A Contemporary City Conversation in Ghent. Visitors are invited to peruse the stacks and are free to take any book they find for a small donation at a designated box. Hopefully they empty the shelves before it rains. (via designboom)

Brock Davis Plays with his Food

May 31, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I never tire of seeing what Minneapolis designer Brock Davis decides to do with his food. From his famous broccoli house to his gummy bear skin rug and the fantastic rice krispyhenge, he never seems to run out of ingenious ideas. The destiny of the three cucumbers sitting in my kitchen has just changed dramatically.
