Stop Motion Woolen Puppets Wrestle the Stuffing Out of Each Other

June 16, 2014

Christopher Jobson

I love everything about these portly characters beating the stuffing out of each other in this animated short from Emma De Swaef and Marc James Roels. Titled Fight!, the stop motion project was selected as the trailer for the National Animation Festival 2013 in Bruz, France. If you liked this also check out a preview for another short, Oh Willy. Art director and model maker Jessica Dance redefines the meaning of “comfort food” with this new series of knitted lambswool recreations of common foods that from a distance could almost pass as the real thing. The project is a collaboration with food photographer David Sykes and is meant to encapsulate the feeling of British cafes and fast food restaurants with a woolly twist.

I promise Colossal won’t turn into a full-time embroidery blog, but Munich-based Veselka Bulkan from Green Accordion created these fun felted veggies that dangle hang from embroidered leaves. Currently available in two different designs.

It’s been over two years since we last featured the work of French duo Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann of Zim&Zou (previously here and here). The pair of graphic designers create paper sculpture, installations, and illustrations for leading luxury brands, books, magazines as well as their own edification. Collected here are a number of works from the last few years and you can explore much more over on their website and on Behance.
