Stunning Tattoos by Art Collaborators 'Expanded Eye'

July 5, 2013

Christopher Jobson

Artists Jade Tomlinson and Kev James of Expanded Eye split their time between London and Thonon-les-Bains, France where they pursue a wide range of artistic endeavors including illustration, street art, and tattoos. Kev does the actual ink work while the duo collaborate for several days on the artwork that merges natural elements with typography and geometry using extremely delicate line work. It is so rare that I get excited about tattoo art and this is definitely an exception, my jaw dropped on seeing just a few quick email attachments and I’ve since gone through their gallery of work four or five times. The pair will be back in Thonon-les-Bains in the fall and are scheduling appointments starting mid-November. See more of their work over on Facebook.

I’m really enjoying these digital illustrations by artist Tebe Interesno, who explores a wide variety of themes from surrealism to science fiction. While his blog hasn’t been updated in a while there are pages of work going back several years that are well worth a look. If you like this, also check out Alex Andreev.

If you’ve visited any art or design blog over the last few years you’ve almost certainly run into the artwork of Anastassia Elias who made waves in 2009/2010 with her wonderful back-lit paper dioramas inside of toilet paper tubes. Today she announced a new book titled Rouleaux containing photos of 67 original works spanning 2009-2012. You can pick it up over on Blurb for about $22. See many more from this series right here.

It’s been over a year since we last checked in with artist Mark Powell (previously here and here) who draws portraits and birds on old vintage envelopes. His works have become increasingly more detailed the last few months and I’m especially enjoying his series of birds. See much more here.

Self-taught artist Tiffany Bozic explores a wide range of natural themes in her tightly rendered depictions of wildlife. Drawing inspiration from her “extensive travels to wild places” and exposure to various research specimens at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, the artist works most frequently with multiple layers of watered down acrylic paint on panels of maple wood that lends a distinctly natural and often realistic level of detail to each of her paintings. Bozic is currently working on a new body of work for a solo show at FFDG this coming October, but for now you can see more work in her portfolio (and archive) on her website.
