June 19, 2018

Laura Staugaitis

https://vimeo.com/296094089 Despite the incredibly vast array of mood and subject matter of films throughout the ages, dancing is a universal dramatic device used to create moments of levity, romance, and drama. Casper Langbak of CLS videos created a delightful super-edit of nearly 300 dance scenes in movies ranging from La La Land to Schindler’s List. You can see a full list of the clips here. Langbak has a large catalogue of cinematic collections and tributes, like Meet the Hero, on YouTube….

The Pits: An Endearing Short Film Follows a Lonely Avocado Searching NYC for its Other Half

May 30, 2018

Laura Staugaitis

In an awww-inducing short film written by David Bizzaro and directed by Mike Hayhurst, a fuzzy little avocado puppet wanders the streets of New York City looking for its missing half and pit. Tinkling piano music and classic New York shots of changing leaves, fast-driving taxis, and charming parks lend a rom-com feel to this fruit-forward film about searching for one’s mate. An Optical Illusion Tile System Designed by Casa Ceramica

October 12, 2017

Christopher Jobson

British tile company Casa Ceramica have designed a novel optical illusion flooring system that uses real tiles to create a vertigo-inducing warped floor. The skewed checkerboard floor functions as the entryway to their showroom in Manchester, lending an Alice in Wonderland atmosphere to a generally traditional medium. You can see a couple more photos on their Instagram. Notation Knives: Listen to Cutting Edge Music From the Renaissance

July 18, 2017

Christopher Jobson

…they were reserved only for special ceremonies or holidays. Kristen Kalber, a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum where some of these knives are kept, lays out a few theories in the video below. Luckily for us the V&A’s Medieval & Renaissance Galleries approached the Royal College of Music to create recordings of what the music on the notation knives sounds like when performed by a choir. Here are examples of a benediction and grace from one knife, but you can hear additional recordings on the V&A website.
