Massive Rube Goldberg Chain Reaction for A-Trak & Tommy Trash's 'Tuna Melt'

April 19, 2013

Christopher Jobson

Here’s a fun new music video for A-Trak & Tommy Trash’s ‘Tuna Melt‘. The Rube Goldberg device moves through almost every room of the The Ohage House in St. Paul, MN as dominoes crash, paper airplanes fly, and submarines chug along underwater. I couldn’t say for sure if it was all shot in one take, but there are some fantastic sequences regardless. The video was directed by Ryan Staake and most of the dominoes and other kinetic devices were created by Tim Fort. (via booooooom)…

A Library Slide by Moon Hoon

…more. The client was very pleased with the design, and the initial design was accepted and finalized almost instantly, only with minor adjustments. The kitchen and dining space is another important space where family gathers to bond. The TV was pushed away to a smaller living room. The attic is where the best view is possible, it is used as a play room for younger kids. The multi-use stair and slide space brings much active energy to the house, not only children, but also grown ups love the slide staircase. An action filled playful house for all ages. See many…

This Anamorphic Portrait by Bernard Pras is Made From an Entire Room of Objects

April 10, 2013

Christopher Jobson

French artist Bernard Pras works almost entirely within the realm of assemblage and anamorposis, a visual illusion where a distorted projection—often made from paint or a collection or objects—must be viewed from a specific vantage point to reconstitute the intended image. His latest piece, a portrait of Malian actor Sotigui Kouyaté, is comprised of numerous objects including clothes, paint, wood, rubber, and other objects found or scavenged around the installation site. Only when viewed through the lens of his camera is the image clearly visible. Watch the video above to see everything come together. Pras currently has a solo…

Monika Grzymala's 3D Tape Drawing Explodes onto the Walls of Galerie Crone

April 1, 2013

Christopher Jobson

I’m not sure it’s possible to infuse black tape with more energy than Polish artist Monika Grzymala has accomplished with her piece Raumzeichnung, roughly “Drawing of a Room”. The three dimensional installation which seems to launch from columns in the basement of Galerie Crone was installed in 2012 and required 3.1 miles (that’s 5km) of stretched, cut, and criss-crossed tape. According to Ignant the artist begins her work from scratch in the gallery, working intuitively with tape to sketch out ideas as she conceives them until the work is done. You can see more of her tape drawings over on…

Lego Watercolor Paintings by Los Carpinteros

…of furniture. Their carefully crafted works use humor to exploit a visual syntax that sets up contradictions among object and function as well as practicality and uselessness. For Los Carpinteros, drawing has played an integral role as a mock technical draft or form of a blue print that suggests not only a process of artistic elaboration but also a form of architectural or carpentry plans. You can explore over 100 of their paintings in high resolution on their website, and don’t miss this interactive 360 degree walkthrough of an exploded room at Hayward Gallery in 2008. Swing to Infinity Inside Thilo Frank's Mirrored Room

February 9, 2013

Christopher Jobson

…windowless room might normally be considered a claustrophobic nightmare if it were’t lined from floor to ceiling with dozens of mirrors creating a reflective universe that seems to stretch into infinity. Titled “The Phoenix is closer than it appears,” the room was constructed by artist Thilo Frank at the Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg, Denmark. The Matrix-like space also features a swing that allows visitors an opportunity to view hundreds of cloned reflections swinging at all possible angles. I can think of quite a few illicit substances that should probably not be consumed before entering this room. (via designboom…
