An Alphabet of Animals Carved from Crayons and Other Miniature Pencil Works by Diem Chau

April 3, 2013

Christopher Jobson

…native of Vietnam, Chau and her family came to America as refugees in 1986 and would later receive a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts after which she began exhibiting her works in New York, Miami, Seattle and Los Angeles. Luckily we’ll finally get a glimpse of Chau’s miniature carvings here in Chicago at Packer Schopf Gallery opening this Friday. Almost everything you see here will be on view and the artist will be giving a talk at 1pm the following day on April 6th, 2013. See more of her new A-Z series on Flickr and on her blog….

Alan Friedman's Astonishing HD Photographs of the Sun Shot from his Own Backyard

February 13, 2013

Christopher Jobson

As I prepare the pictures, color is applied and tonality is adjusted to better render the features. It is photojournalism of a sort. The portraits are real, not painted. Aesthetic decisions are made with respect for accuracy as well as for the power of the image. Although the photos above are amazing, Friedman offers extremely high-resolution views of his work on his Tumblr and you can pick up some prints over on Photo-Eye. He also recently gave a TEDx Talk. New Geometric Paper Art from Matthew Shlian

August 22, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I highly suggest watching the video above by Jakob Skogheim to learn more about his process (he admits to failing algebra in high school), and it looks like a few of his new works are still available in the Ghostly Shop but I imagine they’ll get snapped up pretty quick. Also, don’t miss his 2010 TEDx talk.  …
