Crocheted Aligator Playground in São Paulo by Olek
Crocheted Jacaré is the latest work from Brooklyn-based artist Olek, who traveled to Brasil for the 2012 SESC Arts Show in order to encase a massive playground shaped like an alligator in her trademark crochet covering. With the help of several colleagues Olek covered the reptilian playscape in North Carolinian acrylic yarn and Brazilian ribbons over a period of several weeks. The SESC show runs through July 29th and you can see much more of Olek’s work on her website. All images courtesy Lost Art. (via designboom)

Invasive crochet: Lace doilies and razor wire
Artist Crystal Gregory created this Invasive Crochet installation as part of a show in New York called Art in Odd Places. Via her web site:
Invasive Crochet challenges gender roles by placing handwork on hardened city surfaces around New York. Crocheting lace doilies onto the razor wire of an abandoned lot for the 14th Street public art show Art in Odd Places, smothering the urban landscape in a soft, decorative, and familiar juxtaposition.
And suddenly I have no idea where I found this. Suffice to say, it was certainly somewhere.

Shauna Richardson: Chrochetdermy
Maybe I’m late to the table on this one, but I just encountered Shauna Richardson‘s taxidermy crochet for the first time. I don’t think they require a terrible amount of explanation, but I will say that the photography of her taxidermy “in the wild” is really pretty striking. Also via her website: “For two years she has been creating the largest single-handed crochet sculpture in the world. The finished piece will be housed in a mobile glass taxidermy style case and tour throughout 2012.” What! Can’t wait to see the unveiling of this crochet behemoth. (via who killed bambi)
