Dodgy Dogs Chase, Beg, and Bark Their Way to the Top in a Humorous Card Game Illustrated by Jean Jullien

Part of the unending charm of the human-pet bond is our tolerance for all sorts of annoying, destructive, and disruptive behavior from our domesticated animal pals. Illustrator Jean Jullien captures the range of bad dog habits from stealing and chasing to begging and biting in a new card game, Dodgy Dogs. The project was created in partnership with Yolky Games, and is currently funding on Kickstarter, where it reached its funding goal in under six hours.

Dachshund Geoffrey Barkington’s Silhouette Immortalized in a Stone Bench

As part of the London Festival of Architecture, a little dog gets a big memorial in the form of a one-ton stone bench. Designed by Patrick McEvoy in memory of a deceased dachshund named Geoffrey Barkington, the bench has been installed in Jubilee Gardens. The Festival of Architecture runs through June 30, 2018, and features over five hundred events around the city of London. Mysterious Anthropomorphic Illustrations of Dogs, Foxes, and Deer by Jenna Barton

American designer and illustrator Jenna Barton combines watercolor and digital processing to create mysterious anthropomorphic scenes of dogs, foxes, deer, and other four-legged beings. These eerily rendered creatures often have blank glowing eyes which suggest the animal is possessed or hiding a deep inner world.

Barton is based in Utah, which translates into her work through broad sweeping pastures and farmland illuminated by twilight. These settings add to the heightened tension presented in the animals’ demeanor, while providing a fitting background for her editorial illustrations, album art, game artwork and custom tattoos. Go Behind the Scenes with Photographer William Wegman and his Famous Weimaraner Dog Portraits

Photographer William Wegman began photographing his Weimaraner dog in the 1970s, and hasn’t looked back. Though his original pup, named Man Ray, has long since passed away, Wegman has continued his well-known series of anthropomorphic dog portraits with his more recent canine companions. Wegman has also created videos, children’s books, fashion campaigns, and even regularly occurring Sesame Street segments, all based around his dressed-up dogs. In this short video by Great Big Story, you can see behind-the-scenes of Wegman’s photo shoots, and his process of developing characters with costumes from his enormous prop room.

Colorful Portraits of Adoptable Dogs Photographed by Paul Octavious

Photographer Paul Octavious (previously) casts new light on Chicago’s adoptable dogs through a collaboration with PAWS, the city’s largest no-kill animal shelter. Octavious, an editorial and commercial photographer, explained to Colossal that he was on a shoot for NBC when he thought to pair the vibrant HUE lighting setup with rescue pups that were set to be photographed with characters from a NBC TV show. Octavious ended up spotlighting the animals themselves with the HUE lighting, resulting in these colorful portraits, and he has continued to volunteer his time helping to get Chicago’s homeless pets adopted with his ResHue Dog series. Monstrous Dogs Overgrown with Greenery Illustrated by Holly Lucero

Art student Holly Lucero renders wild depictions of doglike animals overgrown with foliage and colorful parasites that she shares on her aptly titled site Dog Soup. The fantastical storybook creatures are like something from a Dr. Seuss story gone terribly wrong, sometimes covered in entire forests that could be simply decorative but in other pieces appear to consume the beasts alive. The 20-year-old illustrator is currently studying at Riverside City College in California, and you can see much more of her work here.
