Escape Machines

March 25, 2011

Christopher Jobson

DDB Paris created these interactive “Escape Machines” for the French travel company Voyages SNCF. The black, monolithic cubes were installed conspicuously in highly-trafficked public places, the only visible prompt a small red button. As a random person approaches they are asked by a mechanized voice from within the box where they would travel to if they could leave immediately, the button is pressed and hilarity ensues. The person is even presented with an enormous faux ticket to their destination.

Ah, an animated short using Lego

A graduate project in animation by Lee Sunghwan of Studio Shelter. Though I had trouble discerning a plot exactly, I found myself giggling a few times, this is pretty well done.

Amazing Documentary

The Parking Lot

March 7, 2011

Christopher Jobson

After getting several recommendations from friends I finally caught The Parking Lot this weekend via Netflix streaming. This absurd documentary follows a couple of philosophers, poets, musicians and other social outcasts who man a small, seemingly inconsequential parking lot in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tension rises, deep introspection begins and hilarity ensues. Do yourself a favor and give it a watch.

I break my 700 post streak of Star Wars-less posts today. This hysterical new advert for the 2012 Passat is too good to pass up.

A Town Called Panic

November 12, 2010

Christopher Jobson

For the past few months Futureshorts has been releasing episodes of the 2000 French animated series Panique Au Village, distributed by Aardman Animations of Wallace & Gromit fame. Each episode follows Indian, Cowboy and Horse as they find themselves in assorted predicaments that generally make no sense whatsoever. We accept full responsibility if we’ve just exposed you to the stupidest thing you’ve ever seen in your life.
