Zimoun Updates
Everyone’s favorite Swiss sound sculptor Zimoun has updated his compilation video to include work from 2010. Sit back, relax and enjoy the frenetic whizzing and whirring of more modified dc-motors than you can shake a polysiloxane hose at. Previously (though admittedly he updated the same video).

Yang Yongliang
Chinese photographer Yang Yongliang is mostly known for his photographic recreation of Chinese Shanshui paintings, however it was this installation entitled Cigarette Ash Landscape that really got my attention. (via the very fine 500 Photographers)

Shannon Rankin
Born in California artist Shannon Rankin lives and works in Maine.
In my work I create installations, collages and drawings that use the language of maps to explore the connections among geological and biological processes, patterns in nature, geometry and anatomy. Using a variety of distinct styles I intricately cut, score, wrinkle, layer, fold, paint and pin maps to produce revised versions that often become more like the terrains they represent.

The Luminous Earth Grid
The Luminous Earth Grid was a 1993 installation by artist Stuart Williams erected 50 miles north of San Francisco.
Luminous Earth Grid, an array of 1,680 energy-efficient fluorescent lamps, swept over 10 acres of undulating landscape, 50 miles north of San Francisco. Said the artist, “I see the project as a poetic statement on the potential harmony between technology and nature.” Over a five year period, Williams launched a rigorous fund raising campaign throughout Northern California, and raised nearly half a million dollars to realize the massive project. It was widely acclaimed by critics around the globe and drew tens of thousands of visitors.
I would have loved to see this firsthand. (via behance)
