3D Illusion Sketchbook Drawings by Nagai Hideyuki

June 26, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Playing with light, shadow, and perspective, Japanese artist Nagai Hideyuki creates these stylized optical illusions using the entire spread of his sketchbooks. Once propped against a wall and viewed from the perfect angle his illustrations seem to leap off the page creating a visual effect similar to an MC Escher drawing. See many more examples on his website, Facebook, and deviantART.

Optical Illusion Skull Portraits by Tom French

April 16, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Painter Tom French just posted a number of new paintings in preparation for his upcoming exhibition titled Don’t Look Back at Zero Cool Gallery in London later this month. French’s acrylic works often depict couples in seemingly amorous relationships that create the optical illusion of a skull, pieces that walk the line between beautiful and unsettling. Just squint or take a few steps back from your monitor for maximum effect. You can see much more of his work on Flickr, and prints are available at Zero Cool.
