A Mirrored Music Video for Yuksek

February 22, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I’m digging the wacky mirrored approach used in this new video for French musician Yuksek produced by the clever team over at SoLab and directed by Romain Segaud. The creation of typography and faces using reflections was inspired, and I also love that the making of video is the exact same shots revealing the missing off-stage production. (via fubiz)

A Giant Mirrored Building Facade Turns Anyone into Spiderman

January 17, 2012

Christopher Jobson

How fun is this? Bâtiment (Building) is a mirrored installation by artist Leandro Erlich currently on display at Le 104 in Paris as part of their In_Perceptions exhibition. The piece is clever in its simplicity: a massive building facade is constructed on the floor near a towering mirror giving anyone reflected the uncanny appearance of being weightless. Optical illusions are familiar territory for Erlich, whose pool installation appears to plunge air-breathing gallery patrons several feet underwater. Bâtiment is on display through March 2012. Miniature Liquid Worlds by Markus Reugels

January 5, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I’m loving these liquid planets by German photographer Markus Reugels. Using large satellite photos as a backdrop and a high speed camera he captures the background’s refraction through water drops. The perfectly timed shots result in these spherical representations of the Earth, Moon and Jupiter. See much more of his work here and also here. Thanks Markus for sharing your work with Colossal!

Making the Invisible Visible

December 5, 2011

Christopher Jobson

For a second year, street art collective Mentalgassi has partnered with Amnesty International and Wieden + Kennedy creative team Lisa Jelliffe and Kirsten Rutherford to help highlight some of the year’s most prominent human rights abuse cases playing out around the world. Via Unurth:

This year the German street art collective have created work that appears in 26 sites across Wales, Ireland, Germany and Denmark. The 6 individuals highlighted in this year’s work include Fatima Hussein Badi, who faces the death penalty in Yemen after an unfair trial, Jabbar Savalan, who is in prison in Azerbaijan for his peaceful anti-government activism (including comments he made on Facebook), and Natalia Estemirova, a Russian human rights activist whose murder has not been brought to justice.

Mentalgassi transformed large portaits of each individual into segmented strips that are applied to the slats of fences. At first the images aren’t readily visible and only come into focus suddenly from extreme angles, reinforcing the campaign’s theme, ‘making the invisible visible‘. (via unurth)

Fabric Wrapped Trees

December 3, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Welsh-born artist and photographer Olsen Zander has been wrapping trees in white fabric around the UK for the better part of a decade. In this series entitled Tree, Line, Zander uses the fabric to reveal the horizon lines as they disappear behind the surface of trees. Really amazing work. If you liked this, also check out the mirrored tree installations of Joakim Kaminsky and Maria Poll. (via it’s nice that)
