A Layered Papercraft Stop-Motion Music Video for Shugo Tokumaru by Kijek/Adamski

January 21, 2013

Christopher Jobson

Sit back, turn up the volume and set this video to full-screen. Behold the lastest stop motion music video from animation duo Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski for Japanese singer-songwriter Shugo Tokumaru. The video was launched just this morning courtesy of Pitchfork and features a brilliant, continuous parade of what must be thousands of cut paper and foam core silhouettes set to Tokumaru’s quirky track Katachi.

Bristol-based visual artist Joanie Lemercier has been experimenting with light projected onto 3D canvases. This lastest work created for a Birmingham gallery space was created using sheets of A4 paper folded into pyramids onto which he projected light resulting in an interesting organic effect. No video unfortunately, but you can learn more about his work here.

Update: For a similar project check out this geometric photobooth by Method.

Artforum Magazines Carved into Dripping Waves of Color by Francesca Pastine

December 29, 2012

Christopher Jobson

In her Artforum Excavation Series San Francisco-based artist Francesca Pastine created beautiful, dripping topographies from the colorful pages of Artforum Magazine. Pastine cut each magazine layer by layer with an X-acto blade to reveal narrow bands of the pages within, in some cases interacting directly with art printed on the covers creating new hybrid artwork she refers to as “unsolicited collaborations”—which is brilliant. You can follow more of Pastine’s work on her blog and she has upcoming shows at the Halsey Institute of contemporary Art and Studio Quercus.

December 19, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Japanese paper engineer Kota Hiratsuka has been creating beautifully complex origami mosaics that rely on cut and folded geometric patterns. He plans to sell the various templates as downloadable PDFs through his website …though not just yet, so stay tuned. See many more of his works here and on Flickr. A New Stop Motion Short Made Completely with Moleskine Notebooks by Rogier Wieland

November 2, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Netherlands based designer Rogier Wieland has just completed another one of his impressive stop motion ads for Moleskin that relies almost entirely on notebooks to create nearly every aspect of the animation including the precisely cut typography. The making-of video is pretty great too and I’ve included it here as well.
