A Rainbow of Tape Cascades Through a Six-Story Atrium in Sydney

LA-based artist Megan Geckler recently completed work on her latest multi-colored tape installation inside the 6-story atrium of the historic Customs House building in Sydney. The suspended artwork titled “A million things that make your head spin” was produced with 14 kilometers (46,000 feet) of flagging tape with the help of several volunteers. Like a swirling tornado of color, the piece dominates the interior space of the building utilized as a cultural hub located in the city’s Circular Quay area. An Immersive Forest of 60,000 Rainbow Numbers by Emmanuelle Moureaux

In celebration of The National Art Center of Tokyo‘s 10th anniversary, French architect Emmanuelle Moureaux was commissioned to fill the institution’s 6500 square foot exhibition space with her vision of the decade to come. Unsurprisingly, Moureaux, whose practice often involves layering color within space, decided to transform the white cube into a rainbow forest filled with more than 60,000 multi-colored numbers arranged in three dimensional grids.

The installation, Forest of Numbers, is composed of 10 layers, each to represent the next 10 years. Figures 0 through 9 create the 4 digits needed for each year. The numbers are also divided into 100 shades to align with Moureaux’s 100 Colors installation series which she has installed around the world since 2013. An Ethereal Rainbow of Thread Fills a Gallery at the Toledo Museum of Art

Mexican-born mixed media and installation artist Gabriel Dawe (previously here, here, and here) produces rainbow installations that appear as refracted light beams, ethereal works composed of thousands of multicolor threads. His most recent installation, Plexus no. 35, graces the Toledo Museum of Art’s Great Gallery, its brightly colored composition contrasting the surrounding rich shades found in the paintings of old masters.

The site-specific work was designed especially for the museum and will be on display through January 22, 2017. You can see previous installations a part of Dawe’s Plexus series on his website and Instagram.

Artist Liz West Captures a Rainbow Inside the Bristol Biennial

Liz West is no stranger to multi-colored environments, previously covering the floor of an historic UK church with dazzling reflective orbs. Her latest project, Our Colour, is located at this year’s Bristol Biennial and gives the audience the feeling of being dropped into the center of a rainbow by flooding a long hallway with a series of gel-filtered lights. The work changes from a deep violet to an ecstatic red, allowing one to traverse through an immersive collection of colors.

The installation was designed with a human’s psychological and emotional response to color in mind, as West consulted experts in human perception during the development of the work. While observing the audience’s reaction to the piece she has learned that often after traveling through the spectrum of colors they return to the color they find most comfortable—pausing a moment to absorb their favorite shade.

A Double Rainbow Over Chicago

Chicago had a bout of heavy rain storms yesterday evening and when things started to clear the sky began to glow bright yellow. For a few fleeting moments a pair of rainbows emerged, captured here by Mike Eisenberg who seemed to be at the perfect vantage point.

Guerrilla Crocheting Adds a Splash of Color to the Streets of Stockholm

Stockholm-based street artist Julia Riordan became obsessed with knitting and crochet at the age of 10 and eventually launched her own line of knitware in 2012. Soon after she started forays into yarn bombing around London and now continues in Sweden, where she recently installed this fun piece titled Splash. More on Instagram. (via StreetArtNews)
