Health

This great stop-motion animation was written, directed, animated and scored by Hayley Morris for the Advertising Council’s 57th Annual Service Award Dinner to introduce a series of health commercials that were produced this year. Really fun stuff, I especially enjoy the constant fluid/flowing motion of the clay even as the figures are still. Also check out her short film Undone that won Best Animated Short at Slamdance 2009. Time to go for a run.

We Have Band: You Came Out

December 8, 2010

Christopher Jobson

Stumbled onto this 2009 stop motion video for You Came Out by We Have Band, it’s lovely if not slightly bizarre.

The face paint animation film is made up of 4,816 separate stills. Each and every frame was hand-painted, shot, wiped off and redrawn, slightly differently for the next frame in order to create a seamless sequence. This time-consuming process involved the band members lying still for two consecutive days in a studio.

In order to animate the singing bit, lip movement was created by animating a painted mouth on the singer Dede. This involved breaking the lyrics into phonetics and giving each sound a specific mouth shape. To make this as realistic as possible all the mouth shapes were painted on Dedes face individually and then shot. All 4,816 frames of the music video can be found on Flickr

If you’re lucky enough to live in Italy they’ll be in Milan tomorrow night and Bologna on Friday. (via polkadot)

Stop-Motion Ad for Moleskine Mini

December 3, 2010

Christopher Jobson

The 2010 cavalcade of incredible stop motion films continues with a great new advert for the Moleskine Mini by Rogier Wieland based in the Netherlands.

For the new extra small planners/diaries series from Moleskine I made a stopmotion animation, focussing on the bright colors of the diaries and trying to add some surprises to them. The video was made using the original extra small planners. Only the 533 animated pages have been reproduced in Illustrator, printed out on Moleskine paper, cut out and glued inside the planners for each single frame to shoot.

Kurz und Schön Film Competition Opener

December 2, 2010

Another great video short today by Feedmee Design, shot as an intro for the German film competition Kurzundschön (Short & Nice). Another ongoing Colossal theme in this video: my unabashed love for weightlessness in film. (via fubiz)

A Town Called Panic

November 12, 2010

For the past few months Futureshorts has been releasing episodes of the 2000 French animated series Panique Au Village, distributed by Aardman Animations of Wallace & Gromit fame. Each episode follows Indian, Cowboy and Horse as they find themselves in assorted predicaments that generally make no sense whatsoever. We accept full responsibility if we’ve just exposed you to the stupidest thing you’ve ever seen in your life.
