The Ridiculous Pool: Spraypaint Skateboarding

July 5, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Based on some of the comments I saw on Twitter and Facebook it seems a few were a bit upset by this morning’s post about Dtagno’s train graffiti device. To swing the vandalism/art pendulum back in the other direction check out D*Face’s Ridiculous Pool Paint Attack where a couple of skateboarders use remote controlled spraypaint cans mounted to the base of their decks to create an enormous spirograph in an empty swimming pool. Yarn Bombing Meets Spray Paint and Stencils

June 30, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Here’s something wacky and awesome that I’ve never seen done before. Minneapolis yarn bombing artist HOTTEA (previously) strikes again with this amalgam of street art techniques including a canvas made of yarn, two stencils, and spray paint to create this holy trinity of non-destructive street art. How long does it take for one man to unravel 12 skeins of yarn? Longer than it takes for the sun to rise and set. Jump to around 00:45 in the video to watch the time-lapse. That guy is a yarn wrapping animal!

50 Illicit Swings Hung Across Los Angeles

June 15, 2011

Christopher Jobson

In his spare time San Francisco resident Jeff Waldman started hanging swings in various locations around the city. These guerilla swings caught the attention of the Awesome Foundation which awarded him a $1,000 grant to hang 50 more, a project he captured in this great new video (music by Penguin Cafe Orchestra). The project has since grown a bit encompassing swing installations in Los Angeles and in the Marshall Islands, and with our help he’s heading south to Bolivia to hang a couple hundred more. Liquid Bricks

June 3, 2011

Christopher Jobson

This wonderful video arrived in my inbox from Benjamin Boré who created this perfectly executed liquid brick installation as part of a collaboration at Raum à La Box in France. Meant to “question the harshness of the city” the idea is really quite simple, to embed a water-filled pouch beneath the city streets, and the effect is pretty charming, especially for the kids clamoring all over the thing. Music by Mansfield Tya. Thanks Benjamin!
