Wind is a new 15-photo series from Cincinnati-based photographer Jonathan Robert Willis. Via his web site, “The idea was to use a hi-powered wind source to misshape and contort the face, as we captured various moments on camera, leaving what is usually completely in our control to chance. […] The sessions were brief (15 minutes each) since the experience was relatively uncomfortable.” Probably an understatement, but what hilarious results. These will be all over the internet in the next few days I’m sure. (via behance)

NAM: A Fantasy in Life

February 22, 2011

Christopher Jobson

A collection of photographs by Takayuki Nakazawa and Hiroshi Manaka, the founding members of NAM, a collective of artists including photographers, graphic designers, makeup artists and others. The photos are created without the use of digital effects, instead relying on complex webs of filament, clever shifts in perspective, and other low-budget techniques. Truly mesmerizing and dreamlike imagery. NAM’s first public exhibition, A Fantasy in Life, opens at Public/Image.3D on February 25th. (via spoon and tamago)

Creepy Stuff from Celia Marais

November 24, 2010

Christopher Jobson

For her series titled Field Excursion artist Celia Marais constructed these other-worldly organisms out of actual meat and fish—I can almost see the slime dripping down my monitor. Some of the creepy crawly things were then modeled and animated for use on Amon Tobin’s web site (previously). Prints available via The Beholder.
