Fall: The Color of Central Park Filmed over Six Months

This gorgeous time-lapse by filmmaker Jamie Scott starts off like any other video capturing the change of the seasons with the movement of the sun, but then around :30 something pretty remarkable happens. To create the effect Scott filmed in 15 locations around New York City’s Central Park, two times a week, for six months using the exact same tripod and camera lens settings resulting in the footage you see here. The Flawed Symmetry of Prediction: A Time-Lapse of Optical Illusions in the American West

Flawed Symmetry of Prediction is an outstanding short film by filmmaker Jeff Frost that defies categorization as it ventures into time lapse, street art, and even optical illusion. Via email Jeff tells me:

I roam the deserts of California and Utah looking for abandoned structures. When I find a room that I like, I paint large scale optical illusions on the inside of it. I record this process with time lapse photography. It took me over half a year and more than 40,000 high resolution still images to produce this film on my Canon 60D. Aside from painting supplies, the only other equipment I used was a borrowed tripod, and some pretty unconventional lighting. As post production goes, no graphics or CGI was used whatsoever.

The visuals are absolutely brilliant and the sound design is top notch as well. (via laughing squid)

Cityscape Chicago: A Timelapse of Chicago in 30,000 Photographs by Eric Hines

Filmmaker Eric Hines does a phenomenal job of making us look good here in the windy city with his most recent timelapse, Cityscape Chicago. The clip consists of over 30,000 still photographs taken between July and October of this year primarily around the bustling downtown areas including the financial district, Navy pier, Wacker drive and the lakefront.

London Heathrow Approach Time-lapse Turns Jumbo Jets into Floating Toys

This short clip from the Cargospotter aviation video channel shows a few dozen planes as they queue up for approach at London’s Heathrow airport. At 17x normal speed the wind currents seem to bounce the planes like small toys suspended from invisible strings and the perpetually moving clouds create the illusion of a constantly panning camera. In an internet flooded with time-lapse videos this is definitely a gem. (via metafilter)

Noah Kalina Updates Self-Portrait Video to Include 12.5 Years of Daily Portraits (4,514 Photos!)

Photographer Noah Kalina has been taking a self-portrait each day for the last 12.5 years as part of his aptly titled Everyday project. Six years ago a video chronicling six years of portraits set to music by Carly Commando took the internet by storm spawning legions of people to embark on similar self-portrait projects. This morning Kalina released an updated video containing some 4,500 photographs shot from January 11, 2000 through June 30, 2012. Here they are all at once.
