Portuguese product designer Marco Fernandes built some fun robots out of electrical components salvaged from the trash heap. So far Fernandes has designed nine figures as part of his R³bot series, I think #R³bot nine is definitely my favorite.

Limited Edition Wood-Carved Lego Guys by Malet Thibaut

November 20, 2012

Christopher Jobson

French designer and woodworker Malet Thibaut just released this limited edition “Art Toy” undoubtedly inspired by the iconic Lego figures. The toys are quite larger than their traditional yellow plastic counterparts, and it’s probably important to note that although the limbs appear flexible they are not actually hinged. Regardless I think they’d make a pretty awesome gift for the Lego-obsessed. Pick ’em up on Etsy. Unfortunately sold out at the moment. (via behance)

Remarkably Detailed Paper-Craft Models by Papero

June 11, 2012

Christopher Jobson

I remember spending hours with my dad as a kid, constructing lightweight airplanes and simple model rockets, and even those fun dinosaur skeletons you punch out of wood. But nothing we had then comes close to the beauty and complexity of these new paper models by Papero. Created by some of Korea’s top exhibition designers, Papero comes in a wide variety of vehicles that can be constructed piece by piece and painted by hand. Pick up a set now over at Elpha3. No Globes: A Smog-Filled Snow Globe that Highlights Climate Change

Christopher Jobson

Instead of the idyllic miniature scene usually found inside a snow globe with an accompanying plume of white powder, Dorothy constructed a power plant spewing a disconcerting cloud of black particles.

A Hard-Hitting, Toy-Mincing, Stop-Motion Music Video for Delta Heavy

May 8, 2012

Christopher Jobson

This new stop-motion music video for Delta Heavy is pretty incredible. Watch as a cavalcade of classic boardgames from your childhood meet an untimely demise, all for the sake of dubstep. Warning: dubstep, a genre of music my ears are still trying to play nice with. Directed by Ian Robertson.
