Letters and Numbers by 36 Illustrators Come to Life in Alphabetical Animations by Albert Oriol

May 17, 2019

Laura Staugaitis

The popular 36 Days of Type challenge (previously) is an annual open call for designers, illustrators, and artists to bring the alphabet and numbers one through nine to life. For its sixth year, Barcelona-based motion designer Albert Oriol collaborated with 36 fellow creatives to animate individual letters and numbers. By tapping a wide variety of illustrators with unique styles, Oriol’s end result is a highlight reel of diversity in design. From a Bauhaus-ish B to a graffiti-inspired Y, the animated letters and numbers expand, bounce, pixelate, and evaporate. Watch the full sequence below and see more from Oriol on Behance and Instagram.

A Colorful Medley of Inventive Type Animations Puts the Alphabet in Motion

May 24, 2018

Kate Sierzputowski

Each year the project 36 Days of Type invites graphic designers, illustrators, typographers, and artists from around the world to submit their own alphabet-based designs during a 36-day typographical marathon. Designer Ben Huynh submitted animated letters for each day of the open call which he combined into a short film. The video presents his three-dimensional type in the form of Mephis-style office supplies, modern furniture, and abstract neon light installations, all set to the song “Sunshine” by Gym and Swim.

Submissions for this years 36 Days of Type ended earlier this month. You can see all of the alphabetical selections from this year’s edition on the project’s Instagram, and view previous iterations of Huynh’s alphabet animations on his own Instagram and Vimeo. (via Vimeo Staff Picks)

Animated Liquid Typography

August 29, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Russian digital artist Ruslan Khasanov (previously here and here), has continued his liquid type experiments by producing this wicked series of animated gifs called Liquid Type in Motion, showing what happens when he produces these beautifully organic letterforms. Almost looks like something that belongs in the opening credits for Se7ven. See more from the series here.
