A New Stop Motion Short Made Completely with Moleskine Notebooks by Rogier Wieland

November 2, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Netherlands based designer Rogier Wieland has just completed another one of his impressive stop motion ads for Moleskin that relies almost entirely on notebooks to create nearly every aspect of the animation including the precisely cut typography. The making-of video is pretty great too and I’ve included it here as well.

Rot: A Terrifying Facepaint Stop Motion by Erica Luke

October 31, 2012

Christopher Jobson

This is bar-none one of the creepiest things to ever appear on Colossal, but it’s Halloween and this clip is so well animated I couldn’t pass it up. UK artist and illustrator Erica Luke depicts rot and and decay with this super spooky stop motion video made with face paint. Sound by Matthew Perryman. Man this gives me the heebie jeebies.

Filmmaker Eric Hines does a phenomenal job of making us look good here in the windy city with his most recent timelapse, Cityscape Chicago. The clip consists of over 30,000 still photographs taken between July and October of this year primarily around the bustling downtown areas including the financial district, Navy pier, Wacker drive and the lakefront.

London Heathrow Approach Time-lapse Turns Jumbo Jets into Floating Toys

October 28, 2012

Christopher Jobson

This short clip from the Cargospotter aviation video channel shows a few dozen planes as they queue up for approach at London’s Heathrow airport. At 17x normal speed the wind currents seem to bounce the planes like small toys suspended from invisible strings and the perpetually moving clouds create the illusion of a constantly panning camera. In an internet flooded with time-lapse videos this is definitely a gem. (via metafilter)

Astonishing Contact Juggling by Akihiro Yanai at the 2012 Japan Juggling Festival

October 23, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Earlier this month the 2012 Japan Juggling Festival was held in Tokyo, attracting juggling enthusiasts from around the world for three days of workshops, experimentation, and performance. To give you an idea of what JJF2012 was like participant Darren Wakefield captured some fun video highlights. However one of the most astounding moments was when juggler Akihiro Yanai took the stage to perform six minutes of contact juggling, where balls are maneuvered around the juggler’s body rather than being thrown in the air. The video is admittedly a little shaky however that doesn’t make it any less incredible, this is truly one of the best juggling performances I’ve ever seen and it landed Yanai first place at the championship. Diego Stocco Builds an Entire Orchestra of Modified Instruments

October 22, 2012

Christopher Jobson

Musician and sound artist Diego Stocco (previously here and here) is known for his unique multi-track music videos that combine sounds sampled from common objects and modified instruments. In his latest video Custom Built Orchestra Stocco endeavored to create nearly a dozen custom instruments, some completely from scratch and others from instruments he acquired with structural defects that he then altered to create new musical devices. The result is pretty amazing. See the full details of the project over on Behance.
