Musician Mike Love Samples Seemingly Random Syllables That Gradually Turn Into Lyrics

In this song by Hawaii-based reggae musician Mike Love, a seemingly random assortment of syllables slowly grows into a song over a period of three minutes. The song takes 12 loops to build before you can discern all of the lyrics plus layers of harmony, incredible considering a single mistake would essentially ruin the entire thing. It’s fun to listen all the way through first without any sort of reference, but if you’re interested, redditor Cybot made this handy chart to better visualize what Love is doing.

No Reverb Added: An Acoustical Experiment of a Song Recorded in 15 Different Locations

Oh wow, this is a treat. The same people behind this experimental drumming video in 2013, Touché Videoproduktion Creative, just released a similar music video featuring a song written and performed by Joachim Müllner. The piece was recorded in 15 different locations and then stitched together only with video editing. All the sounds you hear were recorded on location. Stick with it even after the 1:00 mark, it gets more and more amazing. (via Vimeo Staff Picks)

Mentor vs. Apprentice: Ridiculously Amazing Father Versus Daughter Beatboxing

In the course of raising a child there comes a series of strange moments in when you discover your child is obtaining skills and perfecting their abilities that surpass what you yourself are capable of. It’s a humbling and awesome thing to witness. Such is the case with this friendly battle between St. Louis-based beatboxer Nicole Paris and her dad. He’s definitely a talented beatboxer and taught his daughter well, but it becomes extremely clear she’s taken things to a ridiculously different level. Famous Album Covers Start Singing in New Music Video for Roy Kafri’s ‘Mayokero’

In this superbly edited new music video for Roy Kafri’s ‘Mayokero,’ famous album covers including photos of Madonna, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Bob Dylan seemingly come to life and begin singing. The project is a collaboration between Roy Kafri and artist Vania Heymann who wrote and directed.

Polyphonic Overtone Singing Demonstrated by Anna-Maria Hefele

This is a great video of polyphonic overtone singing by Anna-Maria Hefele, where she precisely demonstrates the almost inhuman ability to create a harmony of two notes at a time using a single breath. Overtone singing is the same technique used by Tuvan (or Mongolian) throat singers of which there are several other great videos to watch on YouTube. Beatbox Brilliance: Tom Thum at TEDxSydney

At about two minutes in to this ten minute performance by beat boxer Tom Thum my jaw was already hanging open, by about six minutes I had nearly thrown my computer off my lap. The Guardian was absolutely correct when it stated Thum “appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers”. The performance was shot at TEDxSydney last May in the famous Sydney Opera House and was just released online yesterday. Excuse me while I step outside to show this to random people on the street.
