Tom Frantzen

November 30, 2011

Christopher Jobson

New to me, this great sculpture by Tom Frantzen in Brussels, Belgium. The piece was actually completed in 1985 outside the Communauté Française building and depicts a young man emerging from the sewer to grab the leg of a police officer. (via anselmo cardoso de sousa sousa)

Googly-Eyed Street Art

November 30, 2011

Christopher Jobson

These anthropomorphic urban objects by German artist Timm Schneider have been making the rounds everywhere the last day or so but I can’t pass them up. With little more than a marker and sets of styrofoam balls Schneider turns trash cans, coffee cups, and street posts into goofy cartoon faces. If you liked this also check out the work of Scott Beseler who does the same thing with mannequin arms. (via flavorwire, ignant)

Glow-In-The-Dark Day and Night Poster Reveals Crime, Sex, Guns and Zombies

October 11, 2011

Christopher Jobson

Jason Dean’s (previously) latest print appears to depict a quaint little town, but flip out the lights and a slick glow-in-the-dark treatment reveals a city crawling with criminals, arsonists, prostitutes and, yes, zombies. This is a hand-pulled 9-color screen print including two different layers of phosphorescent inks printed on 100 lb. white stock, signed and numbered in an edition of only 60. (thnx, jason!)

Photos of Really, Really Scared People

October 6, 2011

Christopher Jobson

The Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagara Falls, Canada struck viral advertising gold with their online photo gallery of people at the peak of absolute terror. There are literally hundreds of photos like this, family and friends tackling their loved ones, desperate screams, unbridled fear the moment they encounter some unspeakable ghoul in the depths of this haunted house. It’s the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen. I actually think there’s art here somewhere. An enterprising gallery curator might make enormous prints of these. I’d be there opening night. A great image by Manchester-based photographer Rosie Hardy who has a killer photostream.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared: Commentary on the Dark Side of Creativity

July 30, 2011

Make no mistake, this is all kinds of ridiculous, but it’s also kind of brilliant. Directed by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling of This is It (previously).

Michael Jackson vs Mr. Bean

May 30, 2011

Christopher Jobson

A new stop motion short from Montreal-based Pascal Blais Studio. This appears to be some sort of self-promotional piece that just appeared on their Vimeo channel without explanation, however I sense the potential for many more of these. Directed by Patrick Boivin from Woolf + Lapin. (via laughing squid)
